SOCIAL PLAYING
I generally focus on social playing skills when people first start playing.
BAND PLAYING
For social players who want to progress to band level playing it’s really a matter of continuing your tuition.
LEAD GUITAR
I help you learn all of the scales licks and tricks that will allow you to play a wide variety of styles i.e. Blues, Classic Rock, Metal/Hard Rock, Southern Rock, Latin Rock, Jazz Fusion, and a wide variety of other styles.
***BASS GUITAR
Bass is really a band instrument and needs to be taught as such.
I teach pick, finger style, and slap and pop. A career minded bass player in this day and age should be able to use all of these picking styles.
***UKULELE
***MANDOLIN

For some people that is enough.
Other players decide they want to develop the skills to play in a band situation so we work on that.

DURING THE COVID LOCKDOWN I DEVELOPED THE ONLINE TECHNIQUES, EQUIPMENT, AND METHODOLOGY TO DELIVER LESSONS EQUAL TO MY FACE TO FACE TUITION.
Because I'm using top quality Audio and Video equipment and software you will get the best quality our internet connections are capable of.
*** HIGH SPEED INTERNET.
I average around:
* 300-400Mbps Download
* 40-50Mbps Upload.
*** HIGH QUALITY VIDEO
3 Cameras, one for closeups.
*** HIGH QUALITY AUDIO
All Guitar and music audio direct to the net, not through a Mic.
TOP
***BASIC SETUP
**** 1 A laptop or desktop computer.....Pads/phones don't work very well and I won't guarantee a good experience.
BUT WE CAN GIVE THEM A TRY.
**** 2 The ZOOM desktop client....FREE. Not the browser version....(which is why you need a laptop or desktop computer.)
*** 3 You will need a good internet connection. If you can stream movies without interruption then that's usually good enough.
My advice would be to download and install the ZOOM client, play around with it, and use it to video yourself. If this works I can help you with the best settings.
OPTIONAL
**** 4 A separate webcam (might not be necessary with a recent laptop)
**** 5 Maybe an inexpensive set of headphones. This prevents an ECHO effect sometimes experienced when using speakers.
HIGH QUALITY SETUP
It will help if you set yourself up with the following.
*****NOT NECESSARY FOR THE FREE TRIAL LESSONS HOWEVER******
**** 1 An inexpensive USB microphone. AROUND $35-50.....
Headset combos don't work.
**** 2 A device for playing back "play along" tunes.
COMPUTER SPEAKERS WON'T CUT IT
*Could be a phone with a Bluetooth extension speaker.
*A boombox that takes a USB stick.
*An old school stereo system in the room.
ZOOM FOR macOS

Having come from another local teacher I can confidently say Bob and his method are light years ahead of what I’ve personally encountered. His highly organised and structured program put you in the best position to develop as a player regardless of how far you want to go with it. I was pleasantly surprised (and frankly a little shocked-after what I was used to) at the quality of the resources he provides. Text books , backing tracks and videos coming seamlessly together in a systematic way to teach you the lessons are testimony to the time and effort Bob has put into his program. No hastily scribbled pieces of paper anywhere to be seen.Combined with Bob’s patience and good humour I would recommend to anyone wanting to give music a go to look Bob up. He’s a great teacher!

Been going to Bob for about 7 months now and he has improved my technical skills drastically. I highly encourage all ages to get lessons from him as he takes time in structuring his lessons INDIVIDUALLY for his students (I have multiple other friends who go to him, so I hear what they learn too) depending on their starting level. Always having a good laugh with Bob too, strongly recommend attending, the sooner the better.

I have been a guitar student with Bob for a few years. Bob has had a huge amount of experience in the music industry, including many years as a teacher. Bob’s experience and professionalism is reflected in the way he conducts lessons for his students. Bob is very patient and understanding in regard to his students needs and abilities. Bob is also very proficient in a number of instruments. Bob is a great teacher, I recommend him to anyone wanting to learn anything about music.

I was missing something from my Guitar playing and after trying to keep up with various You Tube videos, I could not do any worthwhile playing. I found Bob and have been attending for over 6 months now and I have learned heaps - chords, easy and difficult, timing (something I never had) confidence and an inner delight that I am making progress. And as Nob states - Perfect Practice will make Perfect Playing! His facilities are very good, his style is relaxed, and he is very knowledgeable. I am so glad I have signed up with Bob - Recommend him to all levels of playing guitar. Thank you

I have started guitar lessons with Bob and have enjoyed the lessons immensely. The practice materials Bob supplies are great. They are easy to use and very helpful. Particularly the backing songs which help with timing and getting the beat. As a beginner he is very patient and has a wealth of experience to share. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bob’s studio for guitar lessons.

When I started to learn guitar, I tried a number of teachers but was not happy with my progress. I had one teacher who went to sleep during my lesson, while another used my lesson time for his own practice. None of them had a lesson plan and I realised I was being taught by guitar players, not guitar teachers. Fortunately my brother introduced me to Bob and I haven’t looked back. Bob is a music industry professional with a structured and systematic approach to teaching guitar. I have no hesitation in recommending Bob as a great guitar teacher
* WHEN DO I TEACH
See available times tab
* WHAT IF I HAVE NO TALENT….WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T DO IT ?
Firstly we all have an inbuilt ability for music...it just takes time, patience and the right advice.
On the 1st lesson we work out if there are any issues that would prevent you from learning effectively.
For example:
* An unplayable instrument
* A hand injury
* Substandard internet connection.
* Computer and equipment issues
* Lack of time to practice.
IF ANY ONE OF THESE BECOMES AN ISSUE THEN I WON'T TAKE YOU ON
* AM I TOO OLD ?
I have adult students aged from 30-80 and they are all doing well. Check out my reviews to see what other older learners have experienced.
Most adults have the belief that if they didn't start as a child then “it's too late”
NONSENSE. But lot of adults suffer from the “I’m too old” syndrome….I’m here to tell you that adults make the great students. They’re more focused than kids, and understand that if you put in a bit of work you will be rewarded.
They do have a few slight physical problems because of years of work injuries, RSIs, and old sporting injuries.
I take it slowly, and at a pace your hand feels comfortable with.
* HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?
You pay in 4 week lots, direct debit
* WHAT IF I MISS A LESSON?
You are booking my time, so no refunds or make up lessons.
* HOW MUCH PRACTICE SHOULD I DO ?
When you first start....15 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week is enough. Your hands need a couple of days rest when you first start.
Once you have been playing about a month you should start to practice about 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. This will give you the kind of progress that will keep you encouraged to keep learning.
* HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PLAY A SONG ?
People usually start playing easy songs by the 3rd lesson. I have heaps of MODERN hand picked tunes to give you a good time.
* WHAT SHOULD I BUY TO START WITH ?
You need to give me a call about this.....I can save you a lot of money and help you get a good playable instrument to start on.
